Mar 28, 2015 University Courses relating to Forex/Trading? Trading Discussion. At my university, Portfolio Management helps with the basics of trading, managing risk.
Hi,
I am in my 3rd Year at University and have been given a list of lots of modules to choose in the Business/Finance/Economics area:
I was just wondering, if one was wanting to learn more about Forex/Trading/Markets at University, what the course title would be called/come under?
Not courses teaching 'how to trade forex', buy ones out there that teach things such as how and why markets work, the history of them etc, how government intervention such as pegging works etc etc? More of the educational history/general info about markets.
I'm guessing some Finance courses touch on it?
If I was looking for a course/module in this area, what would the title be? (International Finance? Finance? Economics? Financial Systems?)
Regards,

How did it help? Did it help you make money? I'm not trying to convince anyone. I'm not in the 'convincing' business.

At my university, Portfolio Management helps with the basics of trading, managing risk, the importance of diversification, etc. I also had International Financial Management which has nothing to do with forex trading, but my professor was luckily very into forex trading! He incorporated the basics of forex trading in his course which was neat and unexpected when I signed up for the course. Throughout college, I've learned it's less about the course and more about the professor when searching for specific areas of learning. Meet the right professors and they're more than happy to talk with you outside of the classroom about your favorite topics. Good luck!

Totally Agree {quote} How did it help? Did it help you make money?
Personally it did help me make money in the financial sector in general (my career) & trading in particular (my passion). My uni courses were mostly all focused towards equities & fixed income investments. However, the concepts learned could be applied to any financial instrument in a way or another. The biggest help I got in trading from my studies was in the money & risk management dpt.

There's something very important to keep in mind though. If you are planning to be a full time trader, and don't have enough capital or additional income coming in from somewhere else, then pursuing the above mentioned degree (at least in reputable expensive universities) would be not such an appealing thing specially in the short term. Why? because the courses will not teach you how to turn $1,000 to a million , they will actually help you learn that in order to be profitable you have to make reasonable steady gains(we're talking about <2% / month), and be able to survive bad months - Mar 28, 2015 2:53pmMar 28, 2015 2:53pm

I completely understand what you are saying. I would just like to clarify to anybody, I'm already at University (approaching 3rd year) and I have the option to choose from a list of many many modules, all Business/Economics/Finance related so was just trying to get some advice what might cover the financial markets to some extent so I could choose some modules accordingly.![Expensive courses forex forum 2017 Expensive courses forex forum 2017](https://derattizzazione.info/photos/fe0519188c23c4d0b9a83fff1576397e.jpg)

Yes, not in a direct way. But once you learn and start trading the financial markets, there will be many things to be related from the courses and they will help the process faster. Some of the things I got from the courses:- Assess and manage risk properly (VaR for example)
- Why and how to do diversification
- You learn if any strategy is good or is it just a product of randomness
And many more things. If you want to do systematic trading then definitely you need to know about these, also Statistics course will help.
